Today marked the 1,940th annual remembrance of the breaching of the walls of Jerusalem by the Roman empire. This day, the 17th of Tammuz on the Hebrew calendar, is a day which remembers the beginning of the mourning period known as “The Three Weeks.” The period concludes on July 30th this year at sundown (the 9th of Av on the Hebrew calendar), which is the day that the Holy Temple was set aflame.
